SO WHY IS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL CALLED THE WAVE?

There’s nothing amazingly profound or extraordinary about why we are called The Wave. I can actually break it down into three simple little words: God. You. Others. That’s it. Three basic, yet essential aspects to the life that God has created us for. Let’s hit each one separately so that you can get a better idea of what I’m talking about.

Alright, close your eyes. Wait. That won’t work. Uhm...imagine with me. There we go. Imagine you are at the beach and you are looking out at the waves. The wave is a powerful force of nature and is impossible to stop once it gains it momentum and strength.

Notice how the wave, with it’s strength, impacts the shore time after time. If you watch long enough, you can see how the wave slowly begins to shape and mold the shore; how the grains of sand can’t help but be impacted by the wave causing them to move and conform to the waves constant impact.

Now, keep this visual in your head and let’s look at each of the three words that make up who we are.

GOD. God is first simply because it is His rightful place in your life. God is the wave that impacts us, the shore. God created it all. He created you (Gen.1:27). He sent His Son to die for you and that is how He impacts your life through a personal relationship with Him. As you are shaped and impacted by God’s relationship with you, He offers you the best possible way to live (John 10:10). When you choose Him, you are changed forever just as the shore is changed as the wave impacts it.

YOU. You are an amazing, creation that was made by the most amazing Creator with one purpose in life: to reflect Him (Gen.1:27) to the world around you.  We reflect by doing good works (Eph. 2:12) so that people will see how great He truly is and give Him the praise (Matt.5:16).  So, if our job is to reflect, be like our Creator, then we become like the wave and begin impacting the shore. As one of God’s kids, you have this amazing power (Philippians 4:13) to impact the world around you and lead them toward God.

OTHERS: By God impacting and changing our lives, we now live to reflect Him and to impact the lives of others. These are the people in our schools, where we work, our neighbors...EVERYONE! They are so important because they have been made just like you (Gen.1:27)! They are the shore that we impact. They are the reason, just like you and I, that Christ died on Calvary! God has a plan for them and it is our mission to let them see and hear that plan and how amazing He is. Once this becomes real to them, once they have a personal relationship with God, then the cycle begins all over and they begin to impact the shore.

Middle schoolers are by far the most courageous, unpredictable and moldable force on the planet! By getting them to understand the above, the take on their role as a “wave” and they realize the power that they have in God to change their world that they are a part of everyday.

The Wave isn’t a club. It is a lifestyle. We exist to be an undeniable force for good in our communities and in our schools with everyone that we come in contact with. We are here to serve our LORD and to let the world around us see that we are followers of The Way (Acts 9:2). Followers of the Full Life (John 10:10). Followers of Jesus Christ (John 3:16), the one who died for you and I so that we may have a personal relationship with our Creator; a relationship that nothing can ever take away.

We are the Wave. God impacting You so that you may impact Others for Him.

GOD. YOU. OTHERS.
